1917: Actor Robert Mitchum, best known for movies such as "The Night of the Hunter" (pictured), "Cape Fear," "Thunder Road" and "The Sundowners," is born in Bridgeport, Conn. Mitchum also became known in his later years for providing the voice of the famous American Beef Council commercials that touted "Beef . . . it's what's for dinner."
