MILWAUKEE (AP) -

Eleven members of a Wisconsin National Guard team are almost home following a stint in Afghanistan that was shortened as part of the overall American withdrawal.

The members of the 97th Agribusiness Development Team are expected to return to Wisconsin on Friday.

The soldiers and airmen will be welcomed by Gov. Scott Walker during a ceremony in Madison. Walker also plans to issue a proclamation in honor of Military Spouse Appreciation Day.

The 97th ADT left Wisconsin four months ago to begin mobilization training in Indiana. After that the team went on to Afghanistan, where its role was initially to teach Afghani farmers how to farm and herd more effectively.

But once they arrived their mission was shifted toward administrative functions, such as helping farmers coordinate veterinary vaccination schedules.
