LA CROSSE, Wis. -

A $100,000 grant is up for grabs for organizations fighting chronic hunger in La Crosse County.

Mel Hoffman, the executive director of the Robert and Eleanor Franke Charitable Foundation, announced the Coulee Charitable Award at the end of last week.

It's goal is to teach people how to eat better and requires organizations interested in the funds to work together to fight the local hunger problem.

"In our discussions with food related organizations in the community over the last 8 months or so," says Hoffman, "there seems to be a general agreement that there is enough food in La Crosse County so that nobody should suffer from chronic hunger."

Applications will be available on January 1, 2013.
