Natascha Kampusch (1998) -- Abducted in 1998 at age 10 in her native Austria, Kampusch was held in a converted bomb shelter for eight years by a man named Wolfgang Prikopil. He eventually gave her more freedom, but told her all the windows and doors were rigged with explosives and he would kill her if she escaped. In 2006, Kampusch ran away while vacuuming while Prikopil was on the phone, finding a neighbor who alerted the police and returned her to safety.
