1913: Actor Jim Backus, best known for playing the millionaire Thurston Howell III on "Gilligan's Island" and for voicing the cartoon character "Mr. Magoo," is born in Cleveland, Ohio. Backus also played James Dean's character's father in "Rebel Without a Cause" and starred in his own short-lived show, "The Jim Backus Show."
