1952: Actor and comedian Curly Howard (right), best known as a member of the slapstick comedy team The Three Stooges, dies of a massive cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 48 in San Gabriel, Calif. Howard was born Jerome Lester Horwitz in 1903.
