1933: Writer Susan Sontag, a human rights activist and the author of 17 books, is born Susan Rosenblatt in New York City. Her best known works include "On Photography," "Against Interpretation," "Illness as Metaphor," "Regarding the Pain of Others," "The Volcano Lover" and "In America."
