1974: Dennis Rader, aka the BTK Killer, kills his first victims by binding, torturing and murdering Joseph, Joseph II, Josephine and Julie Otero in their Wichita, Kan., house. Rader, who would kill a total of 10 people in and around Wichita through 1991, was particularly known for sending taunting letters to police and newspapers describing the details of his murders. After a long hiatus, Rader resumed sending letters in 2004, leading to his 2005 arrest and subsequent conviction. Rader, seen here on Aug. 18, 2005 during the sentencing phase of his trial, is now serving 10 consecutive life sentences for the murders he committed.
