1912: The first municipally owned streetcars take to the streets in San Francisco, Calif., with the establishment of the San Francisco Municipal Railway (Muni). The first streetcar line, the A Geary, runs from Kearny and Market streets in the Financial District to Fulton Street and 10th Avenue in the Richmond District.
