1915: Singer and actress Édith Piaf, who would become widely regarded as France's national popular singer, is born in Belleville, Paris, France. Among her best-known songs are "La Vie en rose," "Non, je ne regrette rien," "Hymne à l'amour," "Milord" and "La Foule."
