1947: Hall of Fame baseball catcher Johnny Bench, who played for the Cincinnati Reds from 1967 to 1983, is born in Oklahoma City, Okla. Bench, a 14-time All-Star and a two-time National League Most Valuable Player, would win two World Series championships with the Reds in 1975 and 1976.
