1945: By a vote of 65 to 7, the U.S. Senate approves full United States participation in the United Nations. The vote comes a little more than a month after the organization's charter was ratified by the five then-permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, including the United States, and by a majority of the other 46 signatories.
