1954: A meteorite crashes through a roof in Sylacauga, Ala., and hits Ann Elizabeth Hodges while she is taking an afternoon nap in the first documented case of a human being hit by a rock from space. The 31-year-old woman is badly bruised on one side of her body but able to walk.
