1970: Pope Paul VI suffers a slight chest wound during an assassination attempt at Manila International Airport in the Philippines by dagger-wielding Bolivian painter Benjamin Mendoza Y Amor, who was disguised as a priest. The painter, who shouts "death to superstition" before he is wrestled to the ground, would serve a four-year prison sentence for attempted murder.
