1960: In the trial R v. Penguin Books Ltd. in London, England, Penguin Books is found not guilty of obscenity for publishing D. H. Lawrence's novel "Lady Chatterley's Lover," a book that became notorious for its story of the physical relationship between a working-class man and an upper-class woman, its explicit descriptions of sex, and its use of then-unprintable words.
