1975: Czechoslovakia tennis player Martina Navratilova, then 18 years old, requests political asylum while in New York for the U.S. Open. Within a month, she received a green card and by 1981 she was officially a U.S. resident. She's seen here in 2006 at the ECM Prague Open.
