LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT/AP) -

Wisconsin ranks near the bottom of the list when it comes to adults getting their flu shots.

State officials say Wisconsin has the 47th lowest vaccination rate for people aged 18 to 64.

Health officials say one reason people choose not to get vaccinated is they usually don't get the flu.

However, health officials say that's not a good enough reason. "I've never been hit by a car, but I always look both ways before I cross the road, so you know, this could be the season that you are exposed so we want to encourage everyone to get the flu shot every year," said Kellee Dixon from Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.

As of last Thursday, almost 600 Wisconsin residents were hospitalized for the flu.

Health officials say it's not too late to get your shot.
