LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

With the start of school just weeks away the La Crosse County Health Department is stressing the importance of vaccinations.

The department is asking parents to make sure their families are up to date on their shots.

The reminder is part of National Immunization Awareness Month. The goal is to help protect and prevent your family and others from viruses throughout the year.

"The more people in a community that are resistant to a disease, the less likely that disease can spread within the community. The more people that are protected through vaccines the less likely anybody's going to get that disease," said La Crosse County Health Department Nurse Christina Gillespie.
