Hospital staff had an unusual birth Wednesday morning in Tomah.
They delivered baby "Hal," a state of the art computerized patient.
"Hal" is helping train staff in the New Beginnings Birth Center at Tomah Memorial Hospital.
One of the nurses says it's as real as it can get without having an actual patient. The mannequin has a pulse, breathes, and cries just like a real newborn.
And the instructors are able to choose from some common medical scenarios to keep the staff on their toes. "Well being that we're rural Wisconsin, we get anything and everything underneath the sun, so being able to be prepared for that gives us better patient care," said Carrie Lord, RN.
Other departments in the hospital are hoping to get a turn with similar mannequins in the near future.
