The Affordable Care Act requires that as of January 1, 2014, ALL Americans must carry health insurance.

The Health Insurance Marketplace is a new way to buy health insurance. On the Marketplace, you can see available options, decide what plan is best for you and apply for coverage.

If you're on Medicare, you don't need to do anything on the Marketplace. If you're ensured by your employer, you don't need to do anything and can continue to stay on your plan.

If you're on Medicaid, like BadgerCare in Wisconsin, you will be get a letter in the mail with information about what you will need to do.

If you're uninsured you will need to sign up for insurance through the Marketplace.

The Marketplace is open from October 1, 2013 and through March 31, 2014. After that you'll need to wait for the next open enrollment starting in October 2014, unless circumstances change (marriage, divorce, a baby, moving to a new coverage area, etc.)
