Students at Hamilton Early Learning Center in La Crosse not only have a new calendar this year, they have healthcare just steps away from their classroom.
Gundersen Health System is setting up a weekly clinic every Thursday morning when students are in the building.
Students who have insurance that allows visits at Gundersen will be able to be seen. The staff is able to provide well visits, preventative care, and sick care.
And regardless of insurance, all students have access to immunizations, since Gundersen participates in Wisconsin's "Vaccine for Children" program.
"When you offer accessible healthcare to populations like children, their attendance increases, their academic performance increases, and it's just a collaboration to improve community health within our area," says Stacie Strong, R.N. with Gundersen Health System.
After its first day, the clinic is still waiting for its first patient.
