The online health insurance marketplace, healthcare.gov had several glitches when enrollment opened Monday morning due to the high volume of visitors.
Some visitors at www.healthcare.gov received this message Tuesday morning: "We have a lot of visitors on our site right now and we're working to make your experience here better. Please wait here until we send you to the login page. Thanks for your patience!"
President Obama acknowledged the issue during a speech at the Rose Garden Tuesday afternoon. He said millions of people were visiting healthcare.gov and there was a slowdown before 7 a.m.
There were “five times more users in the marketplace this morning than ever been on Medicare.gov at one time," President Obama said.
Obama mentioned Apple’s new iOS operating system, which had its own glitches when it was released last week.
“I don’t think anyone suggested they shut down the company over it,” Obama said.
U.S. Health and Human Services spokeswoman Joanne Peters says officials "have built a dynamic system and are prepared to make adjustments as needed and improve the consumer experience."
Callers to the federal call center where consumers can get help by telephone (800-318-2596) have reported long wait times.
“It was a central issue in last year’s election. It is settled and it is here to stay.”
