LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

People and organizations making our community a healthier place to live got some recognition Friday.

The La Crosse County Health Department presented its first-ever Healthy Living Hero awards.

The recipients are Jodie Visker for her work on school gardens at Onalaska elementary schools. Also, the Old Oak Family Farm in Bangor for participating in Harvest of the Month and helping people in the WIC program.

And Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.

"The work that you do to keep your employees healthy not only benefits the place you work, but it also benefits your community and your home, because they become educated and aware and can change behavior some healthy behavior at a time," said Lori Freit-Hammes, Director of Health Promotion for Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.

The county hopes to continue these awards every year and also wants to recognize youth involvement in the community.
