August 30: "Dirty Harry" versus the chair Clint Eastwood earned plenty of bad reviews for his Republican National Convention performance: a bizarre, rambling endorsement of Mitt Romney that involved the legendary actor carrying on a long-winded conversation with an imaginary President Barack Obama, or, basically, an empty chair. The largely improvised routine, broadcast in a prime time slot during the Tampa, Fla., convention, was viewed live by about 30 million Americans.
